I’ve asked many other women and mamas what their least favorite house chore is. Their answer? Laundry.

And I get it. Really, I do.

Laundry used to be one of my least favorite chores too. But, because I spend a lot of time doing laundry, and doing laundry is going to be a part of my life as long as I’m alive, I decided to find ways to make it more enjoyable and peaceful. After-all, when life give you lemons, you make lemonade! ☺️

So I asked God for guidance and He showed me a few changes to make, and the changes have proven to work wonderfully in our household. I pray these simple changes help you and your family, as much as they have helped us!

“These older women must train the younger women to love their husbands and their children, to live wisely and be pure, to work in their homes, to do good, and to be submissive to their husbands. Then they will not bring shame on the word of God.”

‭‭(Titus‬ ‭2‬:‭4‬-‭5‬)

  1. Intention is everything. I like to set my intention for doing the laundry as a way to serve Jesus. And honestly, doing the laundry is a great way to serve the Lord. Not only does it force you to conquer selfish parts of your ego, but it’s a way of serving Jesus by serving your family, by bringing His light into your home. If I’m ever feeling unmotivated, these are my go-to verses: “Whatever you do, work at it with all your heart, as working for the Lord, not for human master” (Colossians 3:23-24) And, “Let all you do be done in love” (1 Corinthians 16:14)

  2. Do at least one load a day. This includes washing, drying and putting away. It might feel nice to skip a day(s) of laundry, but it creates more stress later on. Not only does this increase the likelihood of your family not having clean clothes, but it creates an entire day or two of playing catchup, leaving room for idleness and procrastination to wreak havoc in your household, and we all know what scripture says about those. “Through laziness, the rafters sag; because of idle hands, the house leaks” (Ecclesiastes 10:18)

  3. Don’t fold what is unnecessary. Time is precious. Our babies grow fast. Something I never chose to spend my time doing is folding my daughters clothes. I attempted folding her baby clothes before she was born, and I instantly realized it wasn’t for me. I have found that keeping her clothes in organized wicker baskets works much better for us. I have one basket for her onesies, one for tops, one for bottoms, one for pajamas, and one for socks. Then, when it comes time to put them away, I just throw them in the baskets and I’m done!

  4. Pick one day a week to iron. We wear a lot of linen in our home, so clothes get wrinkly fast if they’re not pressed. I find it to be super inconvenient and time consuming to take the ironing board and iron out each day. For me personally, getting all of the ironing done at once allows for smoother mornings during the week and saves time during the week as well. I like to wash-dry-iron and put away clothes that need to be pressed on Sunday to prepare for the week.

  5. Get yourself a nice, lined, whicker basket with sturdy handles to transfer clean clothing. After cutting myself and my laundry on pieces from plastic laundry baskets, I made the switch to wicker and I will never look back! It also adds a nice warmth to the laundry room, creating a more inviting, less intimidating feel.

  6. Use non-toxic laundry products and kiss those toxic dryer sheets goodbye! The research behind what the chemicals in laundry products do to your health is very disturbing. Do your research on this! I love the products from Truly Free! Their dryer angel smells so heavenly (it’s a natural alternative to a dryer sheet that smells 10000x better). I will link them here. If you use the code “TAYLOR” you will get 30% off your order. 🤍

  7. Keep your laundry products in glass jars! It’s not any fun when you have to wrestle with plastic packaging. Using sealable glass jars keeps your products fresh (saves money), is more functional (saves time) and looks less chaotic (more organized).

  8. Use laundry time to meditate on God’s word! What a better time to spend time with the Lord than when you’re actively doing something to share His light. I like to have my Bible app playing during this time, or sometimes I choose to do a contemplative meditation and meditate on areas of my life I need to grow in.

I pray this blesses you!

May God give you Grace and Peace,

Taylor
